we must relearn living in the moment
can i be honest? i'm really sick of complaining about the smartphone and its negative effects on the human psyche. i'm positive that everyone has already voiced their complaints about these stupid metal black slabs in our pockets that control every corner of our lives. what more is there to say?
...how about what it feels like to put it down and just... live?
in a rush to hustle, grind, and evolve our technology, humans have forgotten the joys of living in the moment. sometimes you need to draw your attention to your surroundings: the trees when you're taking a walk, the cityscape when you're driving or riding through the streets, the behavior of animals in the wild and at the zoo... or people walking down the street and waving hello to you. these are all beautiful things that we're surrounded by, yet we take for granted.
the seeking of "living in the moment" is what led me to do photography again. it's an art form that emphasizes capturing the joys of life and the movements of our surroundings. but it's also why i prefer to not take too many photos that are staged (like food shots or family group photos), because the more you take, the less special the moment becomes. quality over quantity, you know?
you have to make every shot count. just like you have to make every moment in your life count. live in the moment. take every shot, and spend every day, like it might be your last.
