why NOT bother?
this entry is about reddit users. what an interesting bunch they are, eh?
in "fandom" circles, it's a quarrel between fake "fans" who believe they know what's best for a work of entertainment more than the people who created it, vs. true fans who just want to enjoy the work and make fanart and stuff.
in "society" circles, it's 2 types of jerks on opposite sides of the same coin: one side says, "haha, AI is going to take your jobs, cry cope and seethe!" while the other side says, "there's no hope, nothing will ever get better, so why bother?"
why bother? why NOT bother?
i know it's easy to give into despair. sometimes, it feels as though the powers that be want us to feel powerless in the face of climate change, AI slop, pointless wars, and an atrocious work environment. but, humans are funny creatures. they always find a way to bounce back after a tragedy... or even during it. we wouldn't have education systems, weekends off, worker protections, equal rights for all, regulations, clean water, nature preserves and national parks, protected species, environmental and wildlife non-profits, or medicines that cure/prevent deadly diseases, without humans putting in the effort to make that happen. these didn't come from rich men giving them to us out of the kindness of their hearts, that's for sure. we fought for them. we took initiative.
and i'm sure the rich man wants nothing more than for us common folk to keep our heads down and our mouths shut while they figuratively and literally get away with murder. and reddit users sure are inclined to believe that our world isn't worth fighting for. they think they're incapable of making a difference. the rich man has drained their motivation to bother, and all they can do now is wallow.
are you going to wallow, too? or are you going to bother, and strive for a better tomorrow? remember, you have more power than you realize. you can't change the world by yourself, but you can make a difference. don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
