i don't need anything
guys, gals, and non-binary pals, it's story time!
last christmas, i put the following at the top of my list:
"i only want these things, and nothing else, not even stocking stuffers."
and my mum didn't like that. she got mad and complained about how "opinionated" i became and "where did [i] go wrong" and stuff. and i don't think she realized how hurtful that was. i got stocking stuffers anyway... yay, my favorite gift: more filler that i don't need.
i don't want to sound ungrateful, but i have issues with consumerism and retail therapy, and christmas' association with them. i can confidently say that i own a lot of stuff, and i'm running out of space to put it all. i don't really want or need more stuff that will just sit there, unused. and i'm sure that, in truth, nobody else does, either. i like to believe there are better ways to feel good than buying stuff.
so, going forward, i won't buy stuff. i'm going to take the stuff that i have lying around, and turn them into new items. whether it's for a birthday or holiday, my friends and family will be receiving craft projects from me from now on. it's a perfect way to save money, clean myself up, and exercise my creative skills.
and as for me? i don't need anything. because i already have everything i could ever want: good company, good food, good-paying work, and good places to be. that's something no stocking stuffer will ever match up to.
